In Running the Spiritual Path, a wonderful book which has been sitting on my shelf for a year and which I am now picking up to read, (SSW alumnus) Roger Joslin quotes that “most secular of Trappist monks,” Thomas Merton, who said “Prayer is the desire to pray.”
Encouraging, is it not?

Matt, I’ve experienced this desire before, and wonder if it is self-piety at work. I should pick up Merton and find out more. Keep up the posts, Danny

Daniel,
Even if this desire that you have includes “self-piety,” it is still a gift from God, since he is able to use even our “crappy faith,” (the size of a mustard seed) to bring about his life in us.

That quote is very comforting indeed. BTW, I really like this site! Didn’t realize you had an ongoing blog.
